Becoming a Member of Legacy

Does Church membership really matter?

In our modern time you cannot go to a website, department store, or restaurant without being asked to sign up for the free membership.  Of course, we all know this “membership” serves no greater purpose than to encourage loyalty and track spending.

So, then you come to church.  And, again, you are asked to “become a member”.  You may wonder, “Does the church want me to become a member so they can track my attendance and giving?”  Please let me put your mind at ease with a resounding “NO”. 

So you ask, “Does church membership really matter?”  This time, let me offer a confident “YES”!

While the idea of membership has been rendered almost meaningless by the retail world, true membership in a local church is vital to the health and growth of every Christ-follower for 2 reasons:

1.       You become part of a CAUSE.  The church exists to fulfill the cause of Christ by showing Him to a broken world.  Our cause is expressed in our simple VISION statement: Love God. Love People. Change the World.  We would love to have you join us in this great cause!

2.       You become part of a COMMUNITY.  One of the greatest benefits of a church family is community!  It is the best place in the world to make friends, raise families, serve the Lord, and share life together!  And at Legacy, there’s always room for YOU!

“Ok, I want to become a member of Legacy, now what?”

To become an active member of the church requires a simple, two-step process which can be completed in either order:

1.       Register for an upcoming Newcomer’s Lunch (Sundays after church) and Legacy Track (a 2-week class on Wednesdays following the Newcomer’s lunch).  Each class is 1 hour in length and is designed to help you get the most out of your membership experience.

2.       At the end of Legacy Track, you will be given the opportunity to complete a Pastoral Care card acknowledging your desire for membership based on one of the following:

a.       Salvation – “I just received Jesus Christ as my Savior.”

b.       Baptism – “I have been saved but have never been baptized”. Or, “I was baptized in a different denomination.”

c.       Transfer of Letter – “I am moving my membership from another Baptist church.”

d.       Statement of Faith – “I have been saved and baptized although I am not currently a member of another church.”
